Obituary for Audrey Annetta Petterson

Audrey Annetta Petterson passed away on July 30, 2020 at Pine Island Lodge in Maidstone, Sask. She will be remembered as an intelligent, artistic, and diligent person who could always appreciate the humour in life.
Audrey was born on April 27, 1953 in Biggar, Sask, the youngest child of James (“Jim”) and Etha Munro of Cando, Sask. She grew up on their farm near Cando, and participated in 4-H Homecraft Club and the United Church Sunday School, first as a student and later as a teacher. During her childhood, she played guitar and sang with a school group, enjoyed playing and competing in badminton, and was a cheerleader.
After completing Grade 12, she went to Saskatoon to take the Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technician course at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Arts and Science. To complete the course, she spent 3 months training in the Tisdale Hospital. In July of 1972, she started working at Maidstone Union Hospital where she worked regularly until 1977.

In July of 1975, Audrey married Darryl Petterson, and they built a life together on their family farm near Maidstone. Audrey became an active member of her new community, supporting large community events such as the local Smorgasbord. She excelled at many arts and crafts, with some of the results sold at local craft fairs and others treasured as family gifts. She also took her famous thinbread to craft fairs, and often sold out before she could even get it unloaded from the van! Over the years, she and Darryl enjoyed many trips on their Honda Goldwing, touring throughout western Canada and northwestern United States.

Audrey is survived by her husband of 45 years (Darryl), son (Kris), daughter (Kara), and granddaughter (Isabella Elias). She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters (Linda Zieger and Freida Marfell), as well as her father-in-law (Robert “Bob” Petterson), sister-in-law (Muriel Munro), brother-in-law (Ross Petterson), and nephew (Duane Munro). She is also survived by her brother (Reid Munro, and Irene), two nieces (Etha Mikhail and Bernadette Feairs), her mother-in-law (Frances Petterson), her brother-in-law (Harvey Zieger, and Liz), and her sister-in-law (Annelle Wilkins).

“ It comes when day is dying in the west,
The birds all snuggle closer in their nests,
Then prairie beauty is really at its best;
At sunset

I stand and gaze at nature’s picture fair,
And with the soft breeze and the evening air,
I know that there’s no beauty anywhere;
Like sunset ”

- “Prairie Sunset” by Etha Munro

There will be no service, but the immediate family will hold a private gathering at a later date.

Donations in Audrey’s memory may be made to the STARS Foundation ( or STARS Foundation, Hangar 21, 2475 Airport Road, Saskatoon, Sask. S7L 1M4)
