Obituary for June Elizabeth MacLean

June Elizabeth MacLean (nee Colter) passed away at the Vermilion Health Centre, surrounded by loving family and friends, on June 16. 2016 at the age of 68 years. Her beautiful smile, her easy laughter, and her fun-loving spirit will be dearly missed.

June was born on August 18th, 1947 in Drumheller, Alberta, to her parents, Clayton & Marjorie Colter. She grew up in the honoured place as the baby of the family, alongside her brother, Leroy, and her older sister, Lois. Right from the beginning, June stole everyone’s hearts with her adventuresome spirit and her mischievous ways. On June 8th, 1968, June was married to her hometown sweetheart, Donald Mervyn MacLean, and together they went on to complete their family, with daughters, Cindy Lee in January 1970, and Melanie Wynette in May 1971. Sadly, their union was cut short, and their family interrupted by the tragic death of Donald, loving husband and father, in October 1976. June’s full-time job and life-focus became raising her girls.

June enjoyed her hobby gardening, coaxing her plants to bloom with her famously green thumb, and even loved mowing the lawn! She adored, and was adored by her many pets, beginning with her pet chicken that she tucked in to her grandmother’s bed when she was only 2 years old! But most of all, she loved nothing more than being together and building special memories with family and friends.

June is survived by her daughters, Cindy & Melanie MacLean; her sister, Lois Hiller; brother, Leroy (Lois) Colter; granddaughters, Chelsie Henneigh, Dakota Carpanini , and Santana Carpanini; grandson, Mackenzie Connor; and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, her parents, Clayton & Marjorie, and her brother-in-law, Glen Hiller.

A memorial service will be held at the Innisfail Legion on Saturday, June 25th at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in fellowship and in fond remembrance of June’s life. Refreshments will be served by the Legion members. If desired, donations may be made in June’s memory to the Cross Cancer Society.

Warm and Loving thanks are extended to family and friends, to the staff at the Vermilion Health Centre, and to the Creech’s Crossroads Funeral Home.
